It has come to light that Pakistan rangers a paramilitary force used by Pakistan Army primarily to brutalize civilians in Karachi and loot the resources in border area is actually illegal, according to statement released by a group of disgruntled Sindh Rangers personnel. The statement has bring out the fact that Pakistan rangers established through an ordinance passed in 1958, enacted in 1959, lapsed when constitution of Pakistan was re-written in 1973, wherein the large number of amendments were made to restructure Pakistan. After creation of Bangladesh, the restructuring of constitution in 1973 made a serious mistake of amending a non-existent ordinance through The West Pakistan Rangers (Reconstitution) Order, 1971 (P. O. No. 14 of 1971). Since the ordinance itself was never passed by the parliament, legally it cannot be amended unless the ordinance has been enacted as law.
This serious loophole in enactment of law has rendered thousands of Rangers personnel ineligible to receive benefits which their counterparts in the Pakistan Army get.
Few days ago, few Sindh rangers personnel leaked a letter written by COAS Gen. Q.J Bajwa to DG Rangers Sindh, wherein he indirectly ordered arrest of Capt. Safdar Awan, son-in-law of ex PM Nawaz Sharif, soon after, the group also released a letter making their demands very clear as to what they are looking for and in-case their demands are not met, they will be releasing more such letter in future as well.

In essence Sindh rangers have demanded increase in their border allowance which remains Rs 45 per month since it was first constituted in 1960.
The letter released by Sindh rangers also mentions about illegal trade of wild life animals and timber trade which army personals who come on deputation indulge in and thereby defame Rangers which do not get any share in the illicit trade.
It is important to mention that personnel of Sindh rangers were alleged to be involved in extra-judicial killing of thousands of Mohajirs and kidnapping for ransom business of Pakistan Army. However when asked about these allegations, the personnel we spoke to informed us that such activities are mostly done by Rangers personnel belonging to Punjab and no Sindhi personnel is involved in the atrocities. They have also promised to release evidence of such actions in future once secured channel of communications are established.
Points to Ponder
Political machinery in Pakistan is already falling with all opposition parties joining to form a common front Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). Sindhudesh and Balochistan Freedom Fighters are jointly fighting a war for freedom from Punjabi Pakistan. There were clashes between Army and Police. Now Sindh Rangers are also frustrated with Pakistan Army. As more and more skeletons are falling, isn’t it the beginning of the end of Pakistan?
